The Three Brands of Fire Truck Toddler Beds
By Liz Benson
The fire truck toddler bed model has always been a popular choice among little boys. It spurs their imagination and provides a reason to leave the crib. So, if you have a boy who is making a transition to a bed, you can’t really go wrong if you settle for a fire truck toddler bed with its bright red color.
In the market today, there are three popular brands selling fire truck toddler beds. Each one is unique in its design and constructed with different materials. Depending on your budget and design preference, you should be able to pick one that suits your needs.
Step2 Fire Engine Toddler Bed
The first fire engine toddler bed model is by Step2. This model is very popular among parents and at Amazon, this item enjoys a 4.5-star rating. This is because most parents find the bed easy to assemble and sturdy. It is constructed using durable plastics and has a siren night light with an auto shut-off feature.
The Step2 fire engine toddler bed has a dashboard with molded-in details like a steering wheel and radio. To complete the look, stickers are provided to decorate the bed, making it less plain. Unlike other toddler beds, this model has a friendly look with big eyes in place of lamps at the front end. If you are not too fond of beds with clear-cut corners, then this bed should meet your needs because the edges are rounded.
Just Kids Stuff Fire Truck Toddler Bed
This model is a little expensive but it is solidly constructed using laminated and imported Baltic birch wood. If you are thinking of using the bed for more than one kid, the Just Kids Stuff fire truck toddler bed should be a safe bet.
However, this bed may not be as popular not only because it is relatively more expensive but the design is also not as attractive. It is very squarish in style, making it look very much like a box. But if quality is what you are after, then this model may be able to fulfill your needs.
Kidkraft Fire Truck Toddler Bed
Of the three, the Kidkraft fire truck toddler bed is the least expensive. Constructed of medium density fiberboard (MDF) materials, it has a storage compartment at the front end. The guard rails are designed as ladders, giving a fire truck look to the bed.
One advantage of this Kidkraft model is that you can buy matching bedroom furniture together with the bed to decorate your toddler’s room. For instance, you can have a clothes pole, step stool that doubles as a toy chest or little table and chairs to make the room just like a small fire station. If your aim is some fun and play, then the Kidkraft brand gives you that option.
Cost Of The Beds
If you are on a budget and can’t afford to spend too much, then you should look at the Kidkraft fire truck toddler bed. The average retail price for this model is about $130 but you can get it for less at times from some online stores. Comparatively, the other two models would cost you about $100 more.
Whether you should spend $100 more and consider the other two toddler bed models would depend on your preference over the type of materials used for the bed’s construction and of course, design attractiveness. Each of the beds has its own pros and cons and you will have to weigh them in accordance with your preference and situation when deciding on which to buy.

Ride-On Toys Review
Young children absolutely love ride-on toys. As soon as they’re able to master the coordination required to make them go via foot to floor power, to pedal them, or to negotiate the steering and foot pedal on battery powered ride on toys, they’re off and running – err, driving, that is.
They can’t get enough of them. Ride-on toys are like a ticket to independence for toddlers, and since many also look like or mimic the vehicles adults drives, they love to pretend they’re “driving” just like mom and dad.
Floor to Foot PowerThere are such a variety of ride-on toys these days that it can be hard to decide what to choose. Certainly, for very young children, like toddlers, a foot to floor ride-on toy is the best option. Toddlers can have a car all their own and become mobile via their own foot to floor power, so you don’t have to worry they’ll go too fast or injure themselves. There are blue foot to floor ride-on cars for boys, pink for girls, and even princess cars and ambulances, but my personal favorite is the adorable airplane. There are even foot to floor ride-on toys that look like a mouse, a dump truck, and a hummer.
Pedal PowerAs the child becomes more coordinated and learns to pedal, three wheel ride-on toys like traditional tricycles or Big Wheels are the perfect next step. But there are lots more pedal ride-on options, as well – airplanes, red and green tractors, forklifts, construction loaders, tractors with front loaders, dump trucks, front loaders, and even farm tractors with trailers to haul dolls or blocks or dirt or whatever suits their fancy at the time. There are also some very stylin’ pedal automobiles – like the Mercedes, red Ferrari, and red BMW convertible and an entire line of sports team themed pedal cars.
My personal favorites in this line are the vintage look car pedal toys. The ™65 Ford Mustang in dark blue or bright red; the ™65 Ford Shelby GT-350; the 1932 Ford Roadster – either in pink, red, or in black with flames; and the 1932 tow truck, fire truck, or police car all look incredible, and any parent who is a fan of vintage cars or antiques will want one of these for their child. Of the entire line, the American Retro Limited Edition Burgundy Roadster impressed me the most with its appearance.
Battery OperatedAnd finally, after a child has reached 3 years of age, you may want to consider a battery powered ride-on toy. It’s important, however, that these in particular be operated only with adult supervision and that your child has the skills necessary to comprehend the effects of moving the steering wheel a particular way and the stop and go foot pedal mechanism before you let them get on one of these. Chances are, if your child has had one of the pedal versions, he or she will have a good grasp of steering already and then you just need to explain the foot pedal.
The variety of battery operated ride-on toys is just as extensive as the pedal powered ride-ons. You can choose from many styles of cars, trucks, motorcycle, crotch rockets, ATVs, go karts, Jeeps, race cars, and dune buggies. There are modern sports cars – like the Jaguar, Ferrari, Porsche, and many more – as well as a classic car and even a baby “bug” (i.e., Volkswagen Beatle).
Obviously, the battery operated models are also going to be the most expensive, but if you watch for sales, you can save a bit on these, too. If you’re looking for one really great gift for your child this year, a ride-on toy makes a fabulous birthday or Christmas present he or she will never forget!

Collect Diecast Model Cars
Are you an enthusiastic lover of cars? If you are, you probably collect diecast model cars. Whether it’s a hot rod, a cruiser, a roadster, or a semi, a diecast model will help you re-live the pleasures of the open road.
High quality diecast models reflect the style, beauty, and details of the original cars and trucks. With details such as wheels with individual wire spokes, seats with working springs, automotive quality paint, doors that open, and revolving metal link chains, you might be ready to take your model for a spin around the block! A 1949 Buick Roadmaster Convertible, for example, has adjustable front wheels, and its doors, trunk, and hood all open up. Imagine cruising down the highway in this beauty!
Golden Legends
For collectors of the golden oldies, nothing beats a spectacular model layered in 24 karat gold. The original 1910 Tin Lizzie 1:32 scale model has real spoke wheels, a front door that opens, a detailed engine, and a center-hinged hood that opens. John Brown Headlamps and side-mount and rear carriage lanterns almost glow in the dazzling gold.
Fast forward to the 1930 Packard Speedster to see how cars changed in 20 years. A 1:32 scale model of the classic has opening front doors, a detailed engine, and an opening bi-fold hood. How they pack such detail into six little inches in a mystery!
Ford Mustangs
Mustangs are among the most popular diecast models. Ford introduced the original Pony Car in 1964. Mustang models trace the development of this legendary car through six generations–from the Fastback to the Boss to the Cobra to the SVO to the Saleen. With a prominent rear spoiler, a 1:18 scale model 2000 Mustang SVT Cobra has a detailed interior, steerable wheels, and a perfectly modeled engine. What color is it? Red, of course!
Chevrolet Corvette
Chevrolet started manufacturing the Corvette in 1953. Diecast models capture the development of this ultimate sports car from the originals through the Sting Rays to today’s models. With its prostar rims and removable hood, the 1957 Corvette gives you a sense of what this car will become. You’ll want to take off in the 1:24 scale model 2007 Corvette Indy 500 Pace Car with steerable front wheels, doors and hood that open, rubber tires, and detailed engine compartment.
Fire Trucks
Almost everyone has a childhood memory of a toy fire truck. Diecast fire truck models starting with the 1914 Ford Model T Fire Engine have extraordinary detail. With unwinding fire hoses, real wood ladders, and hoods that open, and detailed engines, these free wheeling models are fun for everyone. And don’t forget the police diecast cars that accompany the fire trucks!
Entertainment Cars
Some cars are memorable for their roles in movie classics. Remember the 1940 Cadillac Series 75 from the Godfather, or the 1966 Batmobile Roadster? The Batcycle diecast model is a Batman fan’s delight.
Diecast Collectors
Every collector has a different reason for his or her obsession. Whether you appreciate the fine designs and engineering, want to remember years gone by, or have fantasies of the trips you might still take, high quality diecast models are a pleasure to own.

The Big Red Firetruck
By John Myron
I took my boy (3 years old) back to my hometown on the Fourth of July. We sat under the same tree that I sat under when I was a boy in what use to be my front yard to watch the Fourth of July parade. We had a great time – he scrambled to get candy thrown from cars and floats and he even brought some back to share with me. I love him. He pestered this little girl whose name was Ciarra by imitating everything she did until she warmed up to him and they became best friends. They had their own little show going on and kept folks doubly entertained with their dancing and marching to the music coming from the bands and floats.
The beginning of the parade featured my hometown’s high school band, mayor, chief of police, and red fire engines. He loves fire engines. I told him there would be green ones and white ones and yellow ones later in the parade from the neighboring towns. He wanted to know if there would be blue ones. I said I didn’t think so but we would see. The parade continued with clowns, bands, girls dancing with batons, and floats. There was also a scottish pipe band which my son took a special liking to even imitating them by using his arm as if he was pressing the air out of the bagpipe. This surprised me since as a kid, I didn’t like the Scottish pipe band; although, I do now. Anyway, the end of the parade had a couple miles of firetrucks. My son was in his glory. When I was going up, I remember screaming “Ring your siren!” No more. Everyone of those fire engines and ambulances in the parade were blowing their horns and ringing their sirens. I tried to get him to cover his ears (thinking maybe that is why I am losing my hearing now from all those parades) but he would have none of it. This was his time to enjoy, eat candy and take it all in.
The Big Red Firetruck can give your son hours of playtime. It is a ride-on toy powered by his little feet and is made of sturdy wooden construction with metal axels, solid rubber tires, realistic graphics, and a natural wood steering wheel (that free spins). Big Red also has a convenient storage compartment under the seat, which can be accessed thru a removable door in the truck. Will your son or daughter be dreaming of the parade he or she is riding in or of the fire they are putting out?

Pedal Fire Trucks Are Back
Many adults remember having a pedal powered car or pedal fire truck when they were children. This is an experience you can now bring to your own children. In the past these toys have been pushed to the side in favor of battery operated toy vehicles. Now they are back in the limelight. Classic pedal cars can now be found in many toy stores. Not only have these gone back to pedal power, but they are also made out of metal instead of plastic, like toys from your childhood used to be.
There are many benefits to these toys. Playing in a pedal truck can help young children improve their dexterity and coordination. It also is a good way to encourage children to get some exercise. These toys are good for the environment as well, lacking any harmful items such as batteries or motors. With no motor, the toy doesn’t make much noise either, although the children playing in it probably will.
Having this toy become popular again is just one sign of a change in our culture. There has been a rising belief in the importance of things being healthy, natural, and simple. The pedal cars follow these rules. They help children be healthy by encouraging them to exercise, and they are mostly made from natural materials, so they don’t create harmful waste.
in the past decade our society has been moving towards a automatic and artificial existence. Many children spend all of their free time playing video games or on the computer. Most modern toys are made from plastic and require batteries to work. Even toys for toddlers and younger need to make noise or have flashing lights to get attention.
Since we have reached an extreme, the only direction now to go is back. The obesity epidemic among children is just one symptom of the problem, but it has highlighted it for parents. Children are not as active as they should be. It isn’t healthy to sit down all day, so now people are interested in toys that make children want to move around and be active.
It is this movement that has brought older toys back into popularity. Toys that require active children help those children become healthier. Toys that are made of natural materials are also better for the environment. It is hard to safely dispose of batteries, so now children have to become the batteries for their toys. Knowing the importance of a healthy natural lifestyle will stick with a child forever.
Don’t think that you can get a toy like this without paying for it. Things moved away from using natural materials because natural materials are more expensive. A toy car that is made from metal and won’t break after being played with can cost more. The cheapest of this toy I can find with a quick Internet search is sixty dollars. For a Pedal Fire Truck of good quality it can be more. The price could easily rise to a couple hundred dollars. But what is your child’s health and enjoyment worth?
Get a full review and the best price on the hottest Pedal Fire Truck of the year.

Some Assembly Required
By Nola Redd
Sometimes as an adult, I think back to those early Christmases with a strange longing. As much as I love giving, it’s always nice to wake up Christmas morning and be greeted with something you really wanted. As I watch my fourteen year old sister-in-law greet Christmas morning deflated, I remember how much joy I got (or didn’t get) from the new pairs of underwear (fancy, but hey, they’re underwear!) or the sweaters I started getting instead of toys each year. It was right around the same time period that I discovered the joy of playing Santa, and rediscover the meaning of Christmas.
My brother was born when I was eleven, so I had quite a jump start on him. When he was three or so, my sister and I were invited to stay up and help our then-single mom put together his Santa Claus presents together. She was anticipating a difficult night, having purchased a tricycle and a push-pedal firetruck, so she wanted all the hands she could get, I guess.
We decided that the fire truck would be the most difficult of the two – after all, how complicated can it be to put together a tricycle? So we pulled out all the odds and ends and began construction. Surprisingly, the fire truck came with fantastic instructions, clearly written and with (correctly drawn) pictures of each piece for easier matching. At the most, it took us an hour to put together, but I honestly believe it was closer to thirty minutes. Keep in mind this took place at about one in the morning, and you can see the three of us were cheered – bed was in sight!
My mom pulled out the directions for the tricycle as my sister and I lay the pieces on the floor. We had a Phillips head screwdriver, all that the truck required, so we figured we were all set. Mom read the first step, and my sister ran off in search of a regular screwdriver. Step 2 had my mom scratching her head and us two girls trying to match up the (undrawn and poorly described) next piece needed. Step 3 involved a hammer (on a tricycle? Not what we were expecting!). By now an hour had passed and the tricycle was a pitiful pile of nothingness laid out on the floor. Tempers were getting frayed, and yawns were growing plentiful.
Then came the kicker. Step 4 was in another language. Not even Spanish, which I was studying in school and my mom had studied years before. Nope, it was something oriental, with little characters – Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, your guess is as good as mine. My mom scanned the rest of the instructions and in dismay realized that every two or three steps the directions changed from English to this obscure, unknown language, then continued right on in English!
At this point, my mom made the educated decision to chuck the instructions. “We’ll do it like a man,” she declared. I guessed that meant without directions. We pulled the box over and studied the picture, and began making educated guesses about what went where. We went to bed sometime around five that morning; my brother, of course, woke up by seven.
Amazingly enough, that tricycle never fell apart on him. Still, as I watched him jump for joy –literally – through a sleep-induced haze, I remember thinking yes, even this was worth it.
I have two children now, both under the age of three, and while I eagerly anticipate Christmas morning and the sparkle in their eyes, one thing is for sure:
They aren’t getting anything that requires assembly.
Now a mother of three, Nola Redd steers away from complicated toys as presents. She is an author on http://www.Writing.Com/

Decorating Your Boy’s Room Fireman Style
By Fran Sloan
Your own customized Fire hall: How to create a fire hall themed room for your son.
The blare of the sirens and the flash of light coming from a fire truck will often send little boys into frenzy. What little boy doesn’t dream of being a fireman when he grows up? If you are thinking about re-creating your son’s room, you can’t go wrong with a fire hall theme.
Starting with color, choose warm red tones for wall hue. There are many types of red, so to keep a calm flow in your child’s space, try to avoid bright and garish tomato reds. For accent colors, black for furniture and white for trim work best. These colors will contrast with the red and provide a palette that is easy on the eye.
A fire hall theme is all about the accessories. Once your walls are painted, you are ready to tackle the bed. Little boys often have sleepovers, so having a bunk bed not only fulfills space restrictions but also gives them extra room for their friends. You can purchase a plain, wood bed frame from IKEA. Nothing creates an unfinished look to a room more than unpainted wood, so before putting the bed together paint the wood shiny black.
If you have concerns about your son sleeping on the top bunk of the bed, you can add an extra element to the room that will not only protect your child from falls, but will create the perfect fire truck bed. Using plywood, draw a fire truck outline that is slightly larger than the top railing of the bed. Cut out the drawing from the wood and paint the outline to match the look of an actual fire truck. Affix the truck to the top railing of the bunk bed, taking care that it is slightly more elevated than the railing. Like magic, you’ve turned a plain bunk bed into a magical fire truck for your son.
Looking to the floor, a large fire truck shaped kids area rug will pull your room together beautifully. If you can’t find a shape exactly like a fire truck, you may be able to find one of the many road-based black area rugs that will give your child a map to drive their toys on for hours of fun playtime.
The details of a fire hall themed room are vital. If you have an older child, consider installing a real fire poll beside their bunk beds. Although not recommended for younger children due to falls, older kids will be overjoyed to be able to slide down their own fire poll each morning. Fire truck bedding is easy to find on the Internet, and can be found in shades of red or blue. Adding a few artfully framed photos of vintage fire trucks, window treatments to match the bedding, decorative fire hat knobs on the walls, and you will have created a full customized fire hall in your own home.
If you have the opportunity to give your child a themed room, you will not be disappointed by the results. Although it requires a lot of effort and extra expense for the details, a theme room such as a fire hall can create many happy memories for your children that will last years to come.
Fran loves to decorate and often gets asked about theme rooms for little boys rooms. Her most frequent answer is to get some kids area rugs to brighten the floor and then start from there. She suggests you check out The Rug Market Traffic Rug from http://www.HouseOfAreaRugs.com which has a fire truck on it.
